What Is Unbreakable Church?

“Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded his empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for him.”

Napoleon Bonaparte

Why should something that happened long ago be important to us today? As Edmund Burke once warned: “Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it.”

“Unbreakable Church” is an attempt to make Church History relevant to our modern era. This documentary series, filmed in the Middle East and Europe with a professional film crew, will be tailored to make Church History simple, versatile, and applicable to daily life.

In Season One, we hope to cover the era from Jesus up to the pre-Reformation, combining the stories of some of the heroes of the faith with crucial interviews to bring context and a better grasp of the Church’s extraordinary legacy.

Target Audience: A documentary series versatile enough to be used in churches, Christian schools and colleges, or for personal enrichment. Our aim is to make multiple seasons made up of several chapters, with Season One focusing on the Early Church and the dangers it faced in the first millennium of the Church, up to the pre-Reformation. We hope to produce it first in English, with Spanish as our next target. The plan is also to also make a workbook available, in order to be used at Bible Studies or in a formal educational setting. This would include a additional information, questions, homework assignments, and project ideas in order to encourage a deepening and more dynamic understand of Church History.

Release Date: Exact date TBD, but aiming for 2023 or 2024. Subscribing to this site to be the first to see the trailers and documentary, once it comes out. A lot of our ability to start filming and producing this docu-series will depend on getting the support we need (see “Funding below).

Release Platform: TBD, but we plan to release the documentary on at least one online platform as well as on DVD. The workbooks will also be downloadable/printable, with the option of buying a paperback version as well.

Funding: Since this documentary is a faith-based and faith-driven project, we truly cannot do this without your support! If you’d like to help us make this ground-breaking project with the hope of blessing many lives, please prayerfully consider partnering with us. Backstory: Unbreakable Church is the pursuit of a calling Genesis and I, Christopher, felt recently from the Lord, with the aim of transforming the way Christians view Church History. I know many of us see the topic as dry and boring, or perhaps so dense it cannot be properly understood. Yet at the same time, we all know that the History of the Church – what transpired between Jesus and today – is crucial to grasp.

Years ago, when I was first introduced to Church History at Emmaus Bible School, I immediately found the subject to be, while quite weighty, incredibly inspirational and valuable. So many of the mistakes we often see in our churches today – from missions, to leadership, to family, and so much more – are strewn across the pages of the Church’s history. Learning from their mistakes can help save us from committing them ourselves, and hopefully encourage us to better serve and edify the Church today.

For the past decade, I’ve been blessed with platforms to teach Church History, at Bible Schools, camps, and conferences around the world. Of course, there are any number of names and dates to wade through in such a complex topic, yet the draw for me has always been the people – the men and women who God raised up to be a beacon of light, hope, and truth in their time. Each in their own way and their own time, found their center in the absolute foundation of the Church – Jesus Christ.

While I would not call myself an expert in the subject, I would definitely call myself an aficionado, and someone who has been powerfully affected by it in every aspect of my Christian walk. I consider myself more of a story teller, finding encouragement and courage in the stories of those who have gone before us. During Unbreakable Church, our desire is to combine the story-telling aspect with a number of key interviews with expertise in their field (See “The Experts” here: Meet the Team). These two will be woven together as we experience Europe and the Middle East together, as we film – with a professional crew – across these historic lands. We will also add in a combination of maps and images to help us appreciate Church History in a whole new way.

Our desire is to make a documentary aimed at making Church History dynamic, easily understandable, applicable to daily life, and interdenominational. A docu-series versatile enough to be used in churches, Christian schools and colleges, or for personal enrichment. The utmost goal of Unbreakable Church is to inspire us to pursue Christ as the heart and soul of our churches and lives, while being warned by the dangers the Church has faced in the past.

Thank you for taking the time to read. God bless you!

I would like you comment on this video.
If I were to identify myself with a group, it would be with those at Emmaus. God bless you in your project and may the Holy Spirit guide you.
